Wish they had told me - What every Student must know. Posted: 27 Dec 2012 08:47 AM PST I envy the people who don't have any regrets in life and wouldn't change anything if given a choice. I for one would like to pick almost every day and change it for the better, right from my school days. I wish I had done more with my life, and the key to doing more, is in knowing more. If you are in college I recommend you take the time to learn the skills I have listed below. Learn this when you have the time and that's your student days. a) Pick up difficult subjects and ace them. Create a system to learn a new subject quickly and efficiently. Remember your future is all about acquiring new skills. That's the only way to stay relevant in this economy. The more difficult the course, higher is the pay and lesser the competition. b) Read Life's Little Instruction Book by H. Jackson Brown Jr It will give you a wonderful perspective of life and will help you lead an honest and dignified life. c) Read Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People. It will help you in your relationships and keep you grounded in realities. As a college student the world revolves around you, this book will bring you down from the pedestal of self-importance. Remember 90% of our happiness in life comes from the company we keep. d) Learn how to read a corporate balance sheet and learn about mutual funds and stocks. The Wall Street Journal Complete Money and Investing Guidebook is a good start. Don't get carried away and try to make a profit out of the stock market and never get addicted. Remember this is only for the learning experience. e) Learn HTML and basics of web design. Learn to work with WordPress or any other CMS. Learn to customize Facebook pages and other online social network sites. Be very careful about your online reputation. Online is like a second residence. Take great care of it. Volunteer to build a website. Make use of youtube. f) Join a gym and get into great shape. Your happiness and confidence will improve many folds, the better shape you are in. Don't even try cigarettes. They are very addictive and will be the biggest regret of your life. In case you are already addicted try to get rid of the habit as soon as you can. Try the book Allen Carr's Easy way to stop smoking. It helped me quit. g) Travel, every opportunity you get. Be Confident. Never be afraid. Be Happy! |
