I enjoyed the challenge: Sanju Samson

Sanju-Samson-RR-vs-RCB-IPL-2013

It was only his second game of the Pepsi Indian Premier League 2013, but Rajasthan Royals' 18-year old Sanju Vishwanadh presented a calm and composed front as he negotiated the Royal Challengers Bangalore attack. With a 41-ball 63, the slightly built lad from Kerala, played a pivotal role in chasing down a challenging total at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday.

The youngster who turned out for the Jaipur franchise this season, grabbed the opportunities he got with both hands and is an eager student. Sanju Vishwanadh has been soaking in everything he can, including aspects other than cricket from experienced campaigners around and is grateful for the chance to be able to do so.

Besides the veterans in his team, the youngster who loves his wicket-keeping as much as his batting equally, considers AB de Villiers his hero and looks forward to gaining more inputs from the South African player.

While speaking to iplt20.com after an impressive match winning knock, he shared his wish of hoping to chat with the RCB wicket-keeper-bat.

Excerpts:

What was it like batting out there and what was the plan while chasing?

The score was a bit challenging so I just enjoyed the challenge and played. We have a very good batting line-up so I wasn't worried and just backed myself. The coach and captain had already told me I would bat up the order so I had planned my innings and I executed it well. It was my day so I did well.

What was Shane Watson telling you while in the middle?

It was nice to bat with Watson. He just said to back my abilities and keep going. I am very happy with my innings.

What is your natural game what are the shots you like to play besides the one towards extra cover?

I love to attack. And I love to play the cover drive and on drive as well.

You played something like a 'dilscoop'. Tell us about innovations that you make while batting?

(Laughs) If I am settled, I am used to playing that those kinds of shots.

You mentioned that AB de Villiers is your favourite batsman and wicket-keeper, have you had a chance to speak to AB?

When we went to Bangalore I spoke to him for about five-ten minutes. He told me that he wants to see me bat a bit more so on Monday he would have seen me and I hope I get my wish of chatting him up.

What is it like to keep to overseas players like James Faulkner and Shaun Tait?

Since I have kept to them in practice matches it was okay. I just try to keep low and focus on the bowling.

What are the lessons that you have learnt being with Rajasthan Royals so far?

I will have to say that apart from cricket I have learnt how to become a good human being. You can see a lot of players, legends in the team like Rahul Dravid, Brad Hodge and everyone in the team, they are very beautiful human beings and speak very well. I have learnt a lot from that and about cricket too, I have gained lots of knowledge.

Mumbai Indians continued their winning form with a nerve-wracking four-run victory over Kings XI Punjab at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma starred for MI with an undefeated 79 that saw David Miller's 56 go in vain.

Chasing a stiff 175, KXIP were shook early as Lasith Malinga deceived Mandeep Singh (9) with a slower delivery and had his stumps in disarray. Manan Vohra (1) followed him caught by Kieron Pollard off Mitchell Johnson. KXIP got a move on with three boundaries off Malinga in the 5th over. David Hussey went after Dhawal Kulkarni hitting him for consecutive boundaries, before launching him over the ropes.

KXIP lost their third wicket as Pollard pulled off a spectacular catch to dismiss Shaun Marsh (10) off Pragyan Ojha. Miller put Ojha over the fence before the spinner had Hussey (34) caught by Johnson.

Harbhajan Singh sent back Gurkeerat Singh (2) to leave KXIP five down. At the halfway stage, KXIP were 85 for 5, still needing 90 runs.

Miller kept KXIP in the game with two massive sixes off Pollard in the 13th over. Harbhajan then struck twice for MI; he first sent back Azhar Mahmood (9) and followed it up with the dismissal of Manpreet Gony (0). Needing 57 off 30 balls, Piyush Chawla (12) deposited Malinga for maximum before perishing to Kulkarni. Miller helped his team keep up with the required rate as he hit Kulkarni and Johnson for sixes. Johnson finally had Miller (56) caught by Sachin Tendulkar with KXIP 26 runs from the finish line. Praveen Kumar (24) slammed Malinga for a six in the penultimate over leaving 17 from the final over.

Praveen Kumar did his best, but KXIP fell four runs short.

Earlier MI won the toss and chose to bat. Sachin Tendulkar got MI rolling with two gorgeous strokes off Mahmood before he dragged a Kumar delivery back onto his stumps. Dinesh Karthik smashed Kumar for a boundary before launching him for a six. Gony got Karthik (25) out as he chopped the ball onto his stump to give KXIP their second wicket. Dwayne Smith was given a lucky reprieve as Vohra dropped him on 13 off Chawla.

Smith (33) launched Chawla deep into the crowd before perishing the next delivery caught by David Miller. Pollard got off the mark with a monster six. Sharma hit Gony for a boundary before launching him for a colossal six in the 16th over. The Mumbai Indians skipper continued the assault with sixes off Mahmood and Gony to bring up his half-century. Sharma plundered 27 runs off the last over – bowled by David Hussey - to propel MI to 174 for 3.

"No consolation," says David Hussey. "Little bit of improvement needed with the bat. We showed the never-say-attitude, though. Little bit disappointed with my last over. Probably cost us the game."

"I am expecting those guys to do cake ceremony for me," says Rohit Sharma, whose birthday has started. Asad Rauf has already gifted him. "I wanted Mali to come and finish off the game. That's the one thing we always talk about, we want to be the best fielding side in this competition. Even the bowling was good with the dew coming in. I keep it simple: stay still as long as possible and if the ball is there to be hit, hit it."

Dravid: "We were on the back foot in the first six overs, with Gayle going the way he did. The way we batted in the first six, and the way Sanju batted, we just seemed in control right through. With 13 in two overs, I thought it was going to comfortable. We need to focus a game at a time. Lot of cricket left to be played."

Sanju Samson is Man of the Match, what a moment for him: "I would like to thank my family, my team. I was prepared for it and it's my day. I was trying to get maximum runs in the Powerplay." A man of few words.

Dhawal Kulkarni's wait finally over

Posted: 29 Apr 2013 08:58 PM PDT

Those who had plans of watching 'The Chris Gayle Show' at the Wankhede stadium on Saturday had to return back disappointed. The Wankhede stadium witnessed one of the most intimidating spells of fast bowling as Mitchell Johnson and Lasith Malinga bowled in tandem to restrict a power packed RCB batting line up to a paltry 34 in their first five overs.

Dhawal-Kulkarni-MI-RCB-IPL-2013

Chris Gayle was hardly given any room to score freely, and some of the runs that he got were off edges and bouncers that luckily hit his bat to fetch him boundaries. Tillakaratne Dilshan too was finding life difficult at the centre as his efforts to accelerate went in vain as Mumbai Indians looked lively with the ball on the field.

Over number six, enter Dhawal Kulkarni and he got the struggling Dilshan in the fourth ball of his very first over this IPL. A fist pump by Dhawal followed, and the series of events after that only had the young Mumbai seamer walking back with a heart full of content and figures of 4-0-29-3 at the end of the day. Dhawal's wait at the dugout was finally over as he got an opportunity to translate his hard work on the field against RCB on Saturday. Face lit with satisfaction and a performance that will keep him in good stead for the future, Dhawal spoke to IPLT20.com after the match. (Also Read: MI vs RCB - M37 Report & Stats: IPL 2013)

Your first match of the IPL this year and a wonderful performance to start off?

I feel this is one of my best performances in the IPL. To get my first game this year and come out with a performance like this feels special. This was the opportunity that I got after a long time and I wanted to cash in on the opportunity.

Sitting in the dugout watching your teammates play, how eager were you to go out there and give your best shot?

It does not feel great to sit in the dugout, because you always want to go and perform for the team. I was working hard in the nets and working vigorously on my fitness over the past few weeks. I was waiting for this opportunity and I had the belief in myself that I would bowl well when I got the chance. It is great to end up on the winning side after bowling your heart out in the match. I do not want to stop here; I want to help my team win in the fixtures to come.

What was the discussion about Chris Gayle in the dressing room?

There was no plan as such; the only plan and brief for every bowler was to bowl to their strengths and not worry about his strength. We wanted to keep bowling up to him and keep it simple and make sure he does not get off to a flier.

How crucial were Lasith Malinga and Mitchell Johnson's spells at the start of the innings?

Very crucial! Mitchell Johnson and Lasith Malinga are wicket taking bowlers and have always been good with the new ball. Both the RCB batsmen were aggressive at the start against them and finding it difficult to get runs against them, something that helped us restrict them in the first five overs.

Then you backed up their performance by picking up three big wickets.

We knew we had to target the big three in the RCB setup. Getting Gayle early was definitely crucial, but we had to get AB, Dilshan and Kohli as well, because they had the ability to chase totals. Once we had their wickets, we knew it was our game from there.

Did the wicket assist your style of bowling?

The Wankhede wicket has always been full of swing and bounce. The ball was holding a little bit in the second innings. I bowled to my strengths and did not try to do much. I bowled at a particular line and length consistently and believed in keeping things simple.

Did the team feel safe after scoring 194 on the board?

The Wankhede wicket is a good wicket to bat on. We would have liked to defend a 200 plus score, but had to be satisfied with 194 which was a good total too. You can never jump into conclusions in T20s. We have seen RCB chase huge totals in their previous games and we did not want to take them lightly. Picking wickets at the start of the innings was crucial and our bowlers did a great job by sticking to the basics. It was a great team effort.

What aspects of your bowling have you worked on?

T20s are played at a very swift pace and some games take a toll on you mentally and physically. You have to take care of your fitness and also put in a lot of effort in the nets. I have been working on my fitness a lot and making an effort to bowl at a quick pace consistently. During the domestic season too I was aiming to bowl aggressively and looking to take wickets. The efforts kind of paid off.

Tell us about Rohit Sharma the captain.

Rohit has always been a good captain. I have played under him when he has led the Mumbai Ranji team and he knows how Mumbai players play their cricket. He is a good captain to play under and Saturday was no different.

What do Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting have to say about your bowling when they face you at the nets?

Sachin and Ponting share a lot of experiences at the nets with me. Sachin has always been there for me when I have needed him. Even in domestic cricket, he was there to help me out in various aspects of my bowling. Getting to share the dressing room and talk about the game with such legends is a big thing for me.

Have you set any personal goals for this IPL?

I just want to keep my feet on the ground and keep performing without thinking about the results. I want to give my best for Mumbai Indians and pick wickets consistently.

DD vs PWI - M39 Report & Stats: IPL 2013

Posted: 29 Apr 2013 08:59 PM PDT

Match Report:

Delhi Daredevils lifted themselves off the bottom of the table through a hard earned 15-run win over Pune Warriors India at the Chhattisgarh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur. David Warner did the star turn for DD with a well composed 51 that enabled them post 164, following which the bowlers did well to restrict PWI to 149.

Mahela-Jayawardene-Aaron-Finch-DD-vs-PWI-IPL-2013

Chasing a stiff 165, PWI started cautiously as Irfan Pathan bowled a maiden first over. After a few sedate overs, Robin Uthappa upped the tempo with two boundaries off Morne Morkel. PWI made 43 runs from their power play overs. Aaron Finch smashed three boundaries off Pathan's seventh over as PWI started to up the ante. At the halfway stage, PWI were 75 for 0, still needing 90 runs of the remaining ten.

Pathan struck a double blow in the 11th over pegging back PWI. First Uthappa (37) was caught by Unmukt Chand in the deep before Finch (37) was adjudged caught behind. Yuvraj Singh looked in dangerous mood with two imperious strikes to the boundary off Pathan.

Needing 55 from 30 deliveries, Luke Wright and Yuvraj struggled to get the boundaries. In pursuit of quick runs, Wright (19) and Yuvraj (31) fell to Umesh Yadav in a span of a few deliveries to put DD on top. Needing 28 runs off the last over, Shahbaz Nadeem gave away only 13 runs to leave PWI short.

Earlier opting to field PWI's Ashok Dinda drew first blood when he had Mahela Jayawardene (12) caught by Wright. Virender Sehwag got a move on smashing Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a six before cutting him away for a boundary. DD were 37 for one from their power play overs. Dinda got another breakthrough when he had Sehwag (28) gloving to the wicket-keeper to leave DD 68 for 2 at the halfway stage.

Unmukt Chand (17) departed the next over caught behind off Rahul Sharma. Wickets continued to fall as Abhishek Nayar dismissed Ben Rohrer (13). Warner (51*) then started to assault the PWI bowlers, pulling Kane Richardson for a six before smashing three boundaries off Dinda's 17thover. DD took apart Richardson's 19th over for 20 runs as they hit three sixes off it. Some big hitting by Kedar Jadhav (25) helped DD reach 164 for five from their 20 overs.

Man-of-the-Match: David Warner

Brief Scores: Delhi Daredevils 164 for 5 (David Warner 51*, Ashok Dinda 3-31) defeated Pune Warriors India 149 for 4 (Aaron Finch 37; Umesh Yadav 2-24) by 15 runs.

Stats Highlights:

3: Number of maiden overs bowled by Irfan Pathan in IPL 2013. He thus equaled Kings XI Punjab's Praveen Kumar's record of most maidens this year.

4: Number of fifty stands put on by Robin Uthappa and Aaron Finch in IPL 2013- most by any opening pair. The performance of this pair in IPL 2013: 58, 0, 96, 38, 83, 0 and 76.

10.46: Pune Warriors India's economy in last 5 overs (16 to 20) – worst for any side in IPL 2013.

12: Wides conceded by Pune Warriors India – most by any side in IPL 2013.

19: Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur became the 19th Indian ground to host an IPL match.

David-Warner-Man-of-the-Match-DD-vs-PWI-IPL-2013

Presentation:

"Disappointing with the ball in the last five," says Aaron Finch. "That cost us at the end of the day. We are a bit conservative in the chase, but we could have made up. Morne, Umesh and Nadeem bowled really well. We have got only ourselves to blame for where we find ourselves. We haven't been consistent. We need seven from seven to get to nine wins. We have nothing to lose now."

"We had a really good game," says Mahela Jayawardene. "We had to adjust to the wicket upfront, which we did. Davey batted really well towards the end. The bowlers bowled really well. I thought 140-150 might have been par, 160 was pretty decent. We need to keep this momentum, keep working hard and get wins under our belt. We haven't been consistent, hopefully we can do that now."

"To bat through is the role I have been given," says David Warner, the Man of the Match. "I am enjoying it. I just thought if I could get myself in and bat 20 overs, we could put a decent score on the board. We were always trying to get 10 an over for last five, sixty was bonus. You want the ball to follow you in the field, you want to be in the hot spots. You see Kohli, AB, they want to do that too. Hopefully we can take the momentum into the next game."

Chasing 201, KKR got off to a flier scoring 18 runs off the first over bowled by Dirk Nannes. Gautam Gambhir (14) hit Chris Morris for two boundaries, before the bowler came back strong to castle his leg stump. Manvinder Bisla looked in ominous mood smashing Morris for four boundaries in the fifth over. Mohit Sharma had Brendon McCullum (6) play on to his stump to give CSK their second wicket.

Jacques Kallis was given a reprieve when he was put down on 6 by Suresh Raina off Ravichandran Ashwin. Bisla launched Ashwin for a huge six as KKR were 85 for 2 from 10 overs, still needing 116 runs.

Dwayne Bravo sent back Kallis (19) in the 13th over when the South African attempted to paddle one to fine leg, but gave the fielder stationed there a catch. Bisla continued to keep KKR in the chase with consecutive boundaries off Ashwin. Needing 75 from 30 balls, Ashwin dropped Morgan, who then slammed Dirk Nannes for a six. Nannes' 18th over was take apart for 21 runs to keep KKR's hopes alive. Hussey ran out Bisla (92) to leave KKR needing 19 from the final over. But Chris Morris bowled a brilliant last over – conceding only four runs.

Earlier KKR won the toss, and surprisingly chose to field – surprising because the conditions were very trying. CSK started aggressively as Hussey dismissed Lakshmipathy Balaji for three boundaries in the third over. Wriddhiman Saha joined in with two boundaries and a six off Mohammad Shami. Hussey continued the onslaught with consecutive boundaries off Sunil Narine. CSK took apart Kallis' first over for 18 runs as they raced to 67 for 0 from their power play overs. Hussey slammed Kallis over the mid-wicket fence in the 8th over as he brought up his fourth fifty of the tournament.

Rajat Bhatia broke the century opening stand having Saha (39) caught in the deep by Eoin Morgan. Raina continued from where Saha left off, hitting Narine for a six and a boundary in the 14th over. Hussey (95) bludgeoned Yusuf Pathan for a massive six before holing out, off Narine to fall five short of a century. MS Dhoni (18*) and Raina kept the run rate up with regular hits to the fence. Raina (44) was run out by Debabrata Das in the 19th over. MS Dhoni finished the innings in style as he dispatched the final delivery of the innings for a six. CSK eventually finished at 200 for 3.

Other Preprocessor commands

Posted: 29 Apr 2013 09:14 AM PDT

There are a handful more preprocessor commands which can largely be ignored by the beginner. They are commonly used in "include" files to make sure that things are not defined twice. NOTE : 'true' has any non zero value in C. 'false' is zero.  #undef         This undefines a macro, leaving the name free. #if                 This is followed by some expression on the same line. It allows

Understanding Macro Functions

A more advanced use of macros is also permitted by the preprocessor. This involves macros which accept parameters and hand back values. This works by defining a macro with some dummy parameter, say x. For example: a macro which is usually defined in one of the standard libraries is abs() which means the absolute or unsigned value of a number. It is defined below: #define ABS(x) ((x) < 0) ? -(x

Conversion characters

The conversion characters for scanf are not identical to those for printf and it is much more important to be precise and totally correct with these than it is with printf. d                        denary integer (int or long int) ld                       long decimal integer x                        hexadecimal integer o                       octal integer h                       short

Preprocessor Commands

C is unusual in that it has a pre-processor. This comes from its Unix origins. As its name might suggest, the preprocessor is a phase which occurs prior to compilation of a program. The preprocessor has two main uses: it allows external files, such as header files, to be included and it allows macros to be defined. This useful feature traditionally allowed constant values to be defined in

Variables, Types and Declarations in C

A variable is a seqeuence of program code with a name (also called its identifier ). A name or identifier in C can be anything from a single letter to a word. The name of a variable must begin with an alphabetic letter or the underscore '_' character but the other characters in the name can be chosen from the following groups: a .. z (any letter from a to z) A .. Z (any letter from A to Z) 0 .
