PWI v SRH - M22 Report & Stats: IPL 2013 Posted: 17 Apr 2013 10:06 AM PDT Match Report: One over, four wickets, including the second hat-trick of Pepsi IPL 2013, by leggie Amit Mishra enabled Sunrisers Hyderabad to manage an inspiring performance at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, in Pune. SRH superbly defended a meager 119 against hosts Pune Warriors India. Amit Mishra scripted a stunning victory, starring with both bat and ball to help bowl out PWI 11 runs short. Chasing 120, PWI started aggressively. Robin Uthappa flicked two boundaries off Dale Steyn before driving Ishant Sharma down the ground. Aaron Finch then hit two boundaries off Steyn's second over. Thisara Perera then struck a dual blow by dismissing Uthappa (22) and Finch (16) off consecutive deliveries. Uthappa was caught at deep square leg, while Finch was done in by the extra bounce and found the man at point. Karan Sharma then had Tirumalasetti Suman out leg before to get SRH their third wicket. With less than 6 runs needed per over, PWI were on their way home but then Steven Smith (17) top edged a pull shot and was caught at the fence by Ashish Reddy off Ishant Sharma. The wickets of Marsh (14) and Abhishek Nayar (0) brought SRH back into the game. Needing 14 off 12, Mishra bowled a brilliant over picking four wickets which included a hat trick to bundle out PWI. Mishra dismissed Angelo Mathews (20), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (0), Rahul Sharma (0) and Ashok Dinda (0) to help SRH gain a welcome two points. Earlier PWI won the toss and opted to field. PWI struck first getting rid of Quinton de Kock (2) who came in for Kumar Sangakara, caught at cover off Dinda. Bhuvneshwar Kumar who swung the ball beautifully bowled Parthiv Patel (12) and Cameron White (0) off consecutive deliveries to leave SRH reeling at 15 for 3 in 3 overs. The wickets continued to fall as Kumar then had Hanuma Vihari (1) edging to Finch at first slip to claim his third wicket. Karan Sharma (7) was trapped leg before by Rahul Sharma to have half the SRH side back in the hut. The slide continued as Marsh then had Perera (2) caught behind. Biplab Samantray provided some resistance hitting Sharma for a boundary before launching him for a six over square leg. Sharma however had his revenge having Samantray (37) caught at long-off to reduce SRH seven down. Ashish Reddy (19*) played a few shots including hitting a six off Matthews. Along with Mishra, who scored 30 off 24 balls, the two saw SRH reach 119 for 8 from their 20 overs. Man-of-the-Match: Amit Mishra Brief Scores: Sunrisers Hyderabad 119 for 8 (Biplab Samantray 37, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 3-18) defeated Pune Warriors India 108 all out (Robin Uthappa 22, Amit Mishra 4-19) by 11 runs. Stats Highlights: 119: Sunrisers Hyderabad's total – second lowest total successfully defended by a team in IPL. The lowest remains Chennai Super Kings' 116 against Kings XI Punjab at Durban in 2009. They went on to win that match by 24 runs. 83: Number of wickets taken by Amit Mishra in IPL- second most by any bowler after Lasith Malinga's 85. 6: Pune Warriors India lost their last six wickets for a mere addition of seven runs to the total – from 101/4 to 108 all out. This equals the record of worst six-wicket collapse in IPL. Rajasthan Royals had also lost six for seven against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2010. 4: Number of batsmen who got a golden duck (out off the very first ball) in the match – most in an IPL game. In Deccan Chargers- Royal Challengers Bangalore match at Nagpur in 2010 also had four golden ducks. 3: Number of hat-tricks taken by Amit Mishra – most by any bowler in IPL and also in all Twenty20 cricket. Three other players – Lennox Cush, Yuvraj Singh and Tim Southee have taken two hat-tricks 2: Mishra is only the second bowler to take a hat-trick in IPL without any assistance from any of the teammates (he had two batsmen bowled and one LBW). Mkhaya Ntini is the only other bowler to do so - for Chennai Super Kings against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008. Ntini had all three bowled! Presentation Angelo Mathews: I thought we had the game till the last five overs, got off to a brilliant start in the bowling but we choked up again. We got to be consistent to move on from here, it was disappointing to throw a game like this which was in our hand. Nine more games to turn things around. Cameron White: Phew, I am not sure what happened there. Got wickets as and when we needed and then Mishy did his job. In small chases it was important to not leave Ishant and Steyn till the last. Amit Mishra, man of the match: Cam said to me that I should go for the wickets and I got a hat-trick. Its a great feeling, working together, supporting each other. I am not trying for any more tricks, want to keep it simple. source: iplt20.com |
AB de Villiers hates Super Overs Posted: 17 Apr 2013 12:46 AM PDT It's not easy to regularly be in the limelight when you have a rampaging Gayle batting before you. But, this versatile wonder-boy has become the favourite of the masses in Bangalore by winning games from high-octane situations with the bat. One such triumph came at home against the Delhi Daredevils on Tuesday night. After a mini batting collapse resulted in RCB ending a winnable match into a tie against the Delhi Daredevils, de Villiers took charge to smack two sixes in the Super Over, thus setting up a swashbuckling win under pressure for RCB. That, after a 32-ball cameo which resulted in 39 runs. Such is the magic of de Villiers' willow that it made RCB's team owner, Vijay Mallya, gasp with joy, "He's the best. Yes, he does often threaten to give me a heart attack with those unbelievable shots he plays. But he is the best." We caught up with an elated de Villiers immediately after RCB's stunning win. And while the world was in awe of his batting abilities, de Villiers, like a true champion, stressed on the importance of not taking games to the edge of the cliff in the future and took the responsibility to give RCB more convincing wins. What's with the RCB and the Super Overs? I personally have to take a bit of responsibility for that. My run-out started a big collapse and that was unfortunate. In saying that, we have got two points and I am delighted for the team. This win means a lot to us and we find ourselves in a strong position now, having won four out of six games. What is it like to be batting out there, knowing the team's faith depends on what you do in those six balls? It might be entertaining for the viewers but I tell you, it's not very enjoyable when you're out there with so much pressure and only six balls. I was very happy to see the last two balls sail over the boundary, which got us into a good position to win the game. How do the opposition team get past the RCB batting? If they get rid of Chris Gayle, they have AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli to counter! We do have some serious batting firepower upfront and hence we should have finished this game in the 20 overs itself. The fact that we collapsed a bit, tells a bad story about our batting line-up. But we'll fight back and in the next game will come through more convincingly. RCB lost to CSK in the last ball and also came second in the Super Over against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. But does this win show that the team is learning to handle such pressure? That's the positive that we will take out of this match – the fact that we won a pressure game. There were a lot of negatives in the way we batted out there but the fact that we pulled through it, means a lot to us all. There is a notion, especially in the last season that RCB is over-dependent on Chris Gayle. As senior batsmen of the team, did you and Virat Kohli make a conscious effort to change that? Yes, Chris is a fantastic player but one guy cannot perform in every game. Myself, Virat and a few other batsmen in the team understand that we will have to win some games for the team as well. We have a lot of experience in our batting line-up and it's time that we start to take control of the games. Is RCB's strengthened bowling attack helping the batsmen? Definitely! It's a big psychological advantage. Mentally we batsmen know that we have a strong bowling attack that has our back. The bowlers have proved that they can win us games by defending not very big totals and restricting the other team to gettable targets. Should we look out for any new outrageous shots from AB de Villiers this season? Always! My boss (Dr. Vijay Mallya, the owner of RCB) is not happy with my funny shots that I play. But more often than not they come off and I have the confidence in my abilities, so I will keep playing them. source: iplt20.com |
Would have loved to bowl the Super Over: Jaydev Unadkat Posted: 17 Apr 2013 12:36 AM PDT The Royal Challengers Bangalore have been churning out thrillers after thrillers in IPL 2013. Out of their six games so far, four have been absolute nail-biters, including two tied matches! RCB's first Super Over this season was in Hyderabad, where Sunriser Dale Steyn proved too good for them. However, having handled that pressure once, the team from Bangalore clinched the game against the Delhi Daredevils in their second Super Over of the season. While the likes of AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle and Ravi Rampaul were in the thick of the action in front of a vociferous and adoring home crowd, a young cricketer was soaking in the overwhelming environment he found himself in. Jaydev Unadkat, who was RCB's best bowler of the day with 2 for 24 off four overs, struggled to keep his thumping heart in check. After the victory was completed, Unadkat spoke to iplt20.com about the joy of ending on the winning side of such a contest. "We've played out three last-ball thrillers and I'm happy to finally be on the winning side today," he gushed, referring to the losses against the Sunrisers and their last match in Chennai when a last-ball no-ball cost them the match. "That loss against the Chennai Super Kings really hurt all of us," Unadkat said. "We really wanted to win that game because RCB have never done too well there. The way we lost was really heartbreaking for us and it also motivated us all." The team utilised that motivation in a real crunch situation, thanks to the presence of prolific hitters in Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli. "I am very, very lucky to play with guys like Gayle, Virat and AB and not against them. We're a lucky bunch of bowlers in RCB not to be bowling to these batsmen," Unadkat said when asked about the team's batting pedigree. While it was the senior Rampaul who was called on to bowl the Super Over, Unadkat made no qualms about accepting that he would love to handle such pressure himself. "I would have loved to go out there and bowl the super over in that kind of atmosphere." While all the accolades are often reserved for RCB's power-packed batting line-up, this season it's the bowlers who have been setting the right platform for the team by restricting the oppositions to a decent score. "That was the strategy that the team had in mind while picking so many bowlers this season," said Unadkat when asked if the strengthened bowling has taken a bit of pressure off the batsmen. "RCB are looking for bowlers who can restrict the opposition to 150-160 and they already have world-class batsmen to score those runs. We, (as bowlers) on our part, are sticking to the plans and delivering for the team." One area, however, that remains a concern for RCB is the death bowling. While the last-over misery of the CSK game will be remembered for a long time, on Tuesday night, they conceded 47 runs in the last four overs. Unadkat said the team is aware of the issue and is doing everything to address it. "We need to be patient and just keep executing our plans. We cannot just go through the motions in the death overs. It will be important for us to practise bowling the yorkers and the slower ones and then implement them in match situations." source: iplt20.com |
Azhar Mahmood Interview: KXIP vs KKR Posted: 17 Apr 2013 12:29 AM PDT 'It is not over till it's over in the last over' seems to be the theme song more often than not in the Pepsi Indian Premier League 2013! The high voltage drama at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium on Tuesday evening kept the spectators on the edge of their seats as Kings XI Punjab held their nerve to pull off a win against the Kolkata Knight Riders. It was the old warhorses, skipper Adam Gilchrist, Azhar Mahmood et all, who egged the team on, concurred with Praveen Kumar, who then bowled the team to victory in the last over. Although it was Kumar who got them off to a stupendous start with a wicket off the first ball with Adam Gilchrist plucking a brilliant catch out of the air and then calmly defended 11 runs in the last over, Mahmood bowled crucial overs in short bursts to keep the team in the game. Bowling from the other end, he accounted for the crucial wicket of Jacques Kallis that left the visitors reeling on one for the loss of two wickets. And the veteran all-rounder then returned to end the 'on song' Eoin Morgan's innings that threatened to take the game away from the hosts, came back again to remove Debarata Das and finished with three for 21. While speaking to iplt20.com after posting their first win at home of the season, much to the relief of the red flag bearers, a cheerful Azhar Mahmood lauded the team effort like a proud senior for pulling off a win. Excerpts from the interview: On the tight finish but good to get a win at home Yes it is brilliant win. We didn't play well enough. Our 157 was not good enough (score to have) on this pitch. But as a unit we bowled really well and we got crucial wickets at crucial times (in the match). On the advice to Praveen Kumar who also kept his cool in the last over and what went on in the middle It was tough for everybody. I used to bowl in the death, but Praveen hasn't bowled in the death and I was telling him what to bowl and where to bowl because against tail-enders sometimes it is different as compared to the regular top and middle order batsmen. So you have to bowl differently so in the end we crossed the line (successfully). The wicket of Kallis and sending back Eoin Morgan who is known to finish games Both of them are quality players. Kallis is one of the best all-rounders in the world and Eoin Morgan, he is a finisher. I have played a lot of cricket against him so I know his strength and weakness. I bowled in the middle when it was crucial to get a wicket so I came back and got a wicket for my team. So I am quite pleased with that after getting a duck. On the highs and lows in the game (Laughs) I don't mind the ups and lows during the game if we are getting an end result like this. We are pleased and we are happy with that. On Manpreet Gony putting up a all-round match winning performance in his first appearance for KXIP Brilliant! He smashed the ball very well and that's what we need in the lower-order and we were missing someone like him coming down the order and getting some quick runs so (we are) quite pleased with his performance and then he bowled really well as well. So he is a good asset for our team. On the impact for a team to get a wicket off the first ball Oh definitely it helps. If you want to win a game then you need to keep getting wickets and then getting a wicket on the first ball, one can't ask for anything more. On losing their way in the middle and areas they need to work on There is definitely still a lot of margin for improvement. We have to bat well. We have been bowling well but we have to improve in all departments. Our fielding was very good today, but we need to bat and bowl well still. source: iplt20.com |
Jacques Kallis Interview: KXIP vs KKR Posted: 16 Apr 2013 10:54 PM PDT They kept a tight hold on the Kings XI Punjab batsmen but were given the charge by the lower-order, they lost their top-order early but fought back to stay in the game and just when they looked like they would scrape through to the finish line, and a mini collapse buried their chances of a win. Although Sunil Narine finished with a hat-trick, it was veteran cricketer Jacques Kallis who was the most economical off the KKR attack as they restricted the home team to a competitive total. The all-rounder finished with three for 24 including the wickets of Mandeep Singh and Manpreet Gony. Outwitting the batsmen is the South African's mantra to successful bowling in T20 cricket. One of the best all-rounders to play the game, Kallis brings with him valuable experience to the team and enjoys sharing it with the youngsters. After losing a game ridden with highs and lows at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium the senior cricketer is looking forward to regroup and iron out the creases and get back to winning ways. While speaking to iplt20.com, Kallis reflected on the match, the format and KKR. Excerpts from the interview: On the match It was probably one of those games where you need 52 off 42 balls, eight wickets in the hand you expect to win that nine times out of ten, so we are disappointed. It has probably been one of our weaknesses ... It is in the death in the third time that we have probably let ourselves down and so it is an area that needs to be addressed. On bowling in twenty20 and his spells today You got to back your skill and try and bowl to your field. And then out guess that batter… That is what the twenty20 format is about. I have been bowling well lately so hopefully I can continue that, carry on helping KKR restrict the opposition. On the impact of claiming a wicket off the first ball and losing a wicket on the first ball I don't think it is too much. It is one ball of an innings, it has been interesting but like I said we just need to improve in all departments. On whether wicket on the first ball boosts the team It helps the team a little bit but it is a funny game, twenty20. One ball can change the game and one ball can't change the game so there are nine other wickets to get. It does help us to get a wicket off the first ball to set the tone. On mentoring the youngsters You have to try and help the youngsters along and pass on your knowledge. It is something that I enjoy doing. I have been playing the game long enough to be able to gain a little bit of experience along the way so if I can help the youngsters, it gives me great pleasure. On adjustments he had to make for T20 It is about getting your mindset right whether it is Test cricket and then changing to twenty20 or the other way round. And then knowing your role and knowing your game and just enjoying whatever format you are playing (works). I really enjoy the T20 and I have worked really hard on my game to be successful at T20. It was just about getting to know my game in T20 cricket, (and working on) few extra scoring options which I have worked on, sort of worked on six – seven years ago and just being comfortable with the format and a slight change of mindset. On key to bowling successfully in T20 Just try to bowl to your strengths and knowing your strengths try and out guess the batter. And try and bowl to the field. Try to outwitting the batter at the other end who is trying to hit you out of the park. On the dearth of genuine all-rounders That is a tough one. I think it is possible because of the amount of cricket that is being played these days. It's so much that it is hard to be an all-rounder these days. But having said that there are one or two that are coming through, especially in the spinning all-rounders department. I always keep an eye to see who the next all-rounders are coming through. There are guys like Shane Watson who have done well. He has certainly improved as a cricketer and as an all-rounder. He is sort of the one guy who is standing out at the moment. On having maintained fitness while it is a concern for younger players I have been fortunate that I have been pretty much injury free. I have been lucky.... I have put a lot of hard work into my fitness. I have always had this workload from day one since I started playing cricket as a youngster as an all-rounder so I guess my body is just used to it. On what has helped KKR turning things around We know our home conditions pretty well. We are tough to beat at home and that is one good positive. And we have been pretty good at doing the basics, we didn't do that tonight but that is one of the things we pride ourselves in, doing our basics better than the opposition. On the strengths of his team We have got great spinning options, especially in our own conditions at home. And our batting is quite deep, we have got good players and good mixture of aggressive and players that knock a ball around so when we get that get right we are a tough team to beat. On Sunil Narine and the off-spinner registering the first hat-trick in the sixth edition He was incredible! He is a match changer. He got the ball in the right areas and then knocked over three guys in three balls which is an unbelievable effort. He is a world class bowler and I don't think it is the last time that we will see him getting a hat-trick. source: iplt20.com |
RCB vs DD - M21 Report & Stats: IPL 2013 Posted: 16 Apr 2013 10:26 PM PDT Match Report: Royal Challengers Bangalore got entangled in yet another super over, but this time they came out on top ahead of the Delhi Daredevils at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Chasing DD's 153, RCB seemed to be cruising to victory before a late order collapse and a brilliant fight back by DD meant that DD tied the match. The match was decided in the super over. In the super over, batting first, RCB managed to score 15 runs after AB de Villiers smashed sixes off the last two deliveries bowled by Umesh Yadav. Chasing 16 runs for victory, DD lost David Warner first ball, however Irfan Pathan carried on hitting a boundary and a huge six over fine leg. Needing 5 runs off the final ball, Ben Rohrer lost his off-stump bowled by Ravi Rampaul to give RCB a thrilling victory. Chasing 153, KL Rahul (12) got RCB rolling, hitting consecutive boundaries off Ashish Nehra. The Delhi bowler who was earlier denied a leg before appeal had Rahul caught by Mahela Jayawardene. Morkel then got the important wicket of Chris Gayle (13) caught at third man after Gayle had deposited the previous delivery into the stands. AB de Villiers got off the mark with a six over point off Nehra. De Villiers and Virat Kohli knit together 103 runs for the third wicket. RCB reached the 100 mark in just 11.4 overs. Kohli brought up his fifty with a boundary down to fine leg as RCB neared the target. De Villiers (39) was run out by Morkel in the 16th over and Andrew McDonald (0) was caught and bowled by Nadeem two balls later. Irfan Pathan's run out to get rid of Arun Karthik (5) and the wicket of Syed Mohammad (1) brought DD back in the game. Kohli (65) was then caught by Jaywardene off Umesh Yadav as RCB started choking. Needing 12 runs off the last over, Ravi Rampaul hit a six to reduce it to 2 runs off the final ball. Rampaul and R Vinay Kumar scampered for a bye to tie the match and take it to the super over. Earlier RCB won the toss and put DD in. The visiting openers, Virender Sehwag and David Warner, started positively. After a first over maiden they hit three boundaries off RP Singh's second over. Sehwag continued the assault as he then smashed Jaydev Unadkat for three boundaries in the fourth over. Vinay Kumar got the breakthrough taking a stunning catch off his own bowling to dismiss Warner (15). Sehwag (25) was shown the door the next over as he chipped McDonald to Kohli at short mid-wicket. At the halfway stage DD were at 67 for 2. Unadkat then had Juneja (17) caught at long off to give RCB their third wicket. He struck again this time removing Ben Rohrer (14) caught at deep mid-wicket. Jayewardene (28) was run out in a freak fashion as the ball ricocheted off Vinay Kumar's boot onto the stumps. Kadar Jadhav (29*) hit Ravi Rampul for a boundary and a six in the 19th over. Pathan (19*) also dealt a few lusty hits in the final over taking 15 runs off it to help the team finish at 152 for 5. Man-of-the-Match: Virat Kohli Brief Scores: Delhi Daredevils 152 for 5 (Kedar Jadav 29*, Jaydev Unadkat 2-24) tied Royal Challengers Bangalore 152 for 7 (Viral Kohli 65, Umesh Yadav 2-22). Stats Highlights: 2: Number of batsmen to aggregate 5000 runs in Twenty20 cricket. Chris Gayle emulated Brad Hodge. Gayle also completed 2000 runs in IPL, joining the ranks with Suresh Raina, Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar and Jacques Kallis. 4: Number of tied matches in IPL – second this year. Interestingly Royal Challengers Bangalore are involved in both the instances. 7: Consecutive matches Delhi Daredevils have played without registering a win in IPL – their last two in 2012 and all five in 2013. 100: Royal Challengers Bangalore's win-percentage at home this year – four out of four. 103: Runs added by Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers- highest third wicket partnership for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL. The previous record was of 91 between Tillakaratne Dilshan and AB de Villiers against Mumbai Indians also at Bengaluru in 2011. Presentation: Virat Kohli: "Fourth last-ball finish for us, our time had to come in the Super Over i guess, but we should have won with an over to spare. Great comeback by DD and great hits by AB to get us back into the game. We needed 26 off 28 when AB got run out and I didnt get strike after that. I would have been really angry if we had lost today. Ravi bowled a great over to pull us back. It was a brilliant effort by the bowlers." Mahela Jayawardene: "We are getting there. Four overs to go we were not in, couple of crucial wickets, we came back. In the super over, the first three-four balls were alright. That shows the character of the team, the guys are fighting, we need to handle those crucial situations better." source: iplt20.com |
KXIP vs KKR - M20 Report & Stats: IPL 2013 Posted: 16 Apr 2013 10:06 PM PDT Match Report: Manpreet Gony, took his frustration of sitting on the bench for the initial games of his team against KKR, blasting a 18-ball 42 to enable Kings XI Punjab defeat the Kolkata Knight Riders by four runs at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali. Manpreet Gony playing his first match of the tournament contributed with both the bat and ball to help KXIP gain two points. Chasing 158, KKR started poorly as Praveen Kumar sent back Manvinder Bisla (0) caught by Adam Gilchrist after the ball rebounded off Azhar Mahmood's chest. Mahmood then had Jacques Kallis (1) caught at extra cover to reduce KKR to 1 for 2. Gautam Gambhir got a move on for KKR with consecutive boundaries off Kumar and then hammered David Hussey for three successive boundaries. Gambhir found an apt companion in Eoin Morgan and duo together put on 105 runs. Gony provided the big wicket of Gambhir (60) having him caught behind. Mahmood then got the wicket of Morgan (47), caught by Hussey to shift the balance. Parvinder Awana bowled Manoj Tiwary (1) before Mahmood got rid off Debabrata Das (1). Needing 30 off 12 balls, Rajat Bhatia slammed two huge sixes off Awana, before he dragged one from Awana onto his stumps. With 11 runs required off the last over, Kumar dismissed Yusuf Pathan (13) and a run out of the penultimate ball meant that KKR needed 6 off the final delivery. KKR only managed one run, and fell short by four runs. Earlier in the evening, KKR won the toss and elected to field. They struck early as Sachithra Senanayake trapped Gilchrist (7) leg before. The KKR bowlers were miserly and KXIP managed only 35 for 1 in their six power play overs. Manan Vohra (17) was caught and bowled by Lakshmipathy Balaji to give KKR their second wicket. Kallis then had Mandeep Singh (41), who till then had played beautifully, edge behind to the wicket-keeper to leave KXIP at 70 for 3 in 10.1 overs. Sunil Narine turned the game on its head with a hat trick in the 15th over. Narine first had Hussey (12) caught behind, before dismissing Mahmood (0) caught and bowled. He completed his hat-trick – the tenth such effort in the IPL - bowling Gurkeerat Singh (0) to reduce KXIP to 99 for 6. The wickets continued to fall as David Miller (20) was caught behind off Senanayake. Gony (42) played a neat cameo with a six and a boundary off Balaji's 17th taking 15 runs before smashing two sixes and two boundaries off Narine's 19th taking 23 from it. KXIP finally finished at 157 for 9. Man-of-the-Match: Manpreet Singh Gony Brief Scores: Kings XI Punjab 157 for 9 (Manpreet Gony 42, Jaques Kallis 3-24) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders 153 for 9 (Gautam Gambhir 60, Azhar Mahmood 3-21) by 4 runs. Stats Highlights: 0: Number of toss won by Adam Gilchrist in IPL2013- has lost all four so far! 3: Gautam Gambhir scored his third consecutive fifty- his 19th in IPL – most by any batsman. 5: Number of times Kings XI Punjab have won a match by 4 runs or less – most for any side in IPL. 5: Number of batsmen to get dismissed off the first ball of team's innings in IPL2013. Manvinder Bisla joined Unmukt Chand, Kusal Perera and Aaron Finch. Unmukt has suffered this fate twice! 7: Number of wickets lost by Kolkata Knight Riders in last 7 overs while adding only 47 runs to the total. 10: Number of hat-tricks in IPL. Sunil Narine became 8th bowler to do so – first this year. Narine is the fifth spinner to perform this feat after Amit Mishra, Yuvraj Singh, Rohit Sharma and Ajit Chandila. Mishra and Yuvraj have done so twice. He is only the second to end on losing side after Yuvraj Singh (vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, Durban, 2009) 23: Runs conceded by Sunil Narine in his fourth over – most he has ever conceded in an over in this format. Presentation: Gambhir: "Me and Morg should have finished the game. This is what this format is all about. It's a great leveller. We need to think, whoever is there needs to finish the game. The two world-class spinners have a lot of tricks up their sleeve. Morgan has been hitting the ball the best, hopefully he'll finish more games for us." Gilchrist: "I needed to do something after my batting effort [the wicketkeeping]. Manpreet maybe needs to bat at the top of the order after that. He has been terrific. It was a big game, we haven't had the best record here of late." MS Gony is Man of the Match for his all-round performance: "The wicket was to my liking, I was enjoying my batting, I was looking to hit straight. I want to perform in every game, however many games I get to play. Stretch the boundaries however much you like, I'll still keep hitting sixes." source: iplt20.com |
