India has taken out the U19 International Series after demolishing Australia by eight wickets in the Series final at Marrara Oval in Darwin today.

India never looked troubled in their run chase today and reached Australia's total of 75 in only the 16th over to finish the Series unbeaten. (Also Read: New Zealand Under-19 vs India Under-19 Tri-Nation Tournament 2013)

The Aussie players may have spent last night watching one of last year's Australian U19 representatives, Ashton Agar, bat his way into history over in England. But they were unable to use that inspiration to produce any Agar-like heroics with the bat today.  (Also Read: Australia Under-19 vs India Under-19 Tri-Nation Tournament 2013)

Indian captain Vijay Zol won Player of the Series after a dominant tournament with the bat. (Also Read: India Under-19 vs New Zealand Under-19 Tri-Nation Tournament 2013)

Australian fast bowler Matt Fotia was the only player to snare a five-for during the tournament and finished top of the bowling table with 10 scalps at an average of 17.20. Fellow teammate Cam Valente was also impressive over the Series and finished second on the bowling table with nine wickets at 15.89. (Also Read: India Under-19 vs Australia Under-19 Tri-Nation Tournament 2013)

Sixteen-year-old Jake Doran was the best of the Aussie bats throughout the tournament with a spectacular average of 195 and an aggregate of 195 runs (second behind Zol's 284 runs). (Also Read: India Under-19 vs Papua New Guinea Under-19 Tri-Nation Tournament 2013)

The U19 International Series is part of Cricket Australia's (CA) Under 19 high-performance program and has a decorated history of producing the next generation of Australian players including Michael Clarke, James Pattinson and Agar.

CA's National Talent Manager Greg Chappell has worked in the last three U19 programs, including identifying and nurturing the talent of Agar and Pat Cummins, and has watched the U19 Series in Darwin closely.

Chappell said Australian cricket fans had a lot to look forward to in the coming years.

"Doran is the quintessential all-round cricketer for the modern era for he is an accomplished wicket-keeper who also bowls some handy left-arm seamers.

"[He] shows enormous potential as a left-hand middle order player in the mould of Michael Hussey," Chappell said.

Chappell also identified opener Matthew Short as another batsman to watch, and said he had been impressed by young bowlers Fotia and Valente.

"[Short] has shown enormous potential as a stroke player and is also a promising off-spin bowler who fields well. He has already been recognised by Cricket Victoria with a rookie contract for next season.

"[Fotia] is a strongly built young man who likes to bowl fast and who loves a chat.

"[Valente] is a clever medium fast bowler and lower middle order batsman from South Australia. Cam is a competitive young man who has a good understanding of the tactical requirements of the game and is a proven wicket-taker," Chappell said.

Australia underperformed with the bat this Series but Chappell said it was up to the players to use these experiences as a good learning opportunity.

"Early signs suggest that talent is not the problem. It will come down to how much is learnt from the experiences; then it is down to commitment, desire and execution," Chappell said.

Australia is currently preparing for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup, to be held in Dubai in February 2014. The next test for the Aussie U19s ahead of next year's World Cup will be an U19 quad series against India, South Africa and Zimbabwe in India during September.

Brief scores: Australia U-19 75 all out in 24.4 overs. India U-19 76/2 in 15.3 overs. India won by eight wickets.

I am blessed with good cricketing sense: MS Dhoni: Tri-Series 2013

He has made a habit of coming good when the chips are down and Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni feels his excellent finishing skills have a lot to do with the good cricketing sense he is "blessed" with.

Dhoni's 52-ball 45 proved to be decisive as India lifted the ODI tri-nation series trophy after beating Sri Lanka by one wicket in a thrilling final. (Also Read: India vs Srilanka – Final, Tri-Series 2013 - Report)

"I think I am blessed with a bit of good cricketing sense. I knew I could get 15 runs off the last over, I'm happy that it worked," said the beaming captain, who returned to the team after recuperating from the hamstring injury which kept him out for most part of the series. Dhoni said he preferred to use a heavy bat in the final over of the title clash against Sri Lanka as it was "perfect for slogging".  (Also See: Images: India vs Sri Lanka - Final, Tri-Series 2013)

Of the 45 unbeaten runs that Dhoni scored, 16 came in the last over during India's chase of 202.

"I went with a heavy bat, the weight was perfect for slogging," the Man of the Match said at the presentation ceremony.

After bowling out Sri Lanka for 201, India rode on Dhoni and Rohit Sharma's half century to chase down the target with two balls to spare at the Queen's Park Oval.

"15 players have been very good on the field and that is a good sign," he added.

"The opposition bowler (Shaminda Eranga) was not the most experienced in that last over unlike (Lasith) Malinga, so I thought I would take my chances."

Dhoni and Virat Kohli, who led the team in three matches in Dhoni's absence, jointly accepted the winners trophy after the presenter had forgotten about it.

Player of the series was Bhuvneshwar Kumar while Rohit Sharma was awarded the Most Trusted Player of the Series.

Sharma said: "I am really happy with the way we performed. The wicket was not easy to play shots, I wanted to delay my shots and wanted to stay as long as possible in the middle.

Regarding the Indian captain's knock, the Mumbaikar said, "We have seen Dhoni doing it over and over again, so it was not so much of a surprise."

Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews was full of praise for his bowlers.

"It was a great game, the bowlers showed a lot of character to defend 200. Sanga and Thirimanne batted really well, but we lost momentum after that. Had we played till the end, we could have pushed it to 230-240 and that would have been enough.

"Herath bowled really well to bring us back into the game, but Dhoni is always a dangerous batsman. We played a good tournament throughout, didn't win the title, but the players showed a lot of character," Mathews said.

India-Won-Tri-Series-2013

Returning to play in the Celkon Mobile Cup 2013 final against Sri Lanka, MS Dhoni led India to the title with a trademark six by attaining the 202-run target. Despite losing partners at regular intervals, the India captain held up one end and struck two sixes and a boundary in the last over to take India to a one-wicket win at the Queen's Park Oval in a close encounter.  (Also Read: India vs Sri Lanka - Final, Tri-Series 2013 - Statistical Highlights)
After asking SL to bat first, Bhuvneshwar Kumar removed both openers, but Kumar Sangakkara (71) and Lahiru Thirimanne (46) carefully rebuilt the innings to set SL on course for a competitive total. However, while attempting to accelerate the run-rate, Thirimanne fell to Ishant Sharma. With a foot in the door after Sangakkara's dismissal, the Indians forced their way to warp up the SL innings for 201. The spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja struck at regular intervals, and bagged two and four wickets respectively. (Also Read: I am blessed with good cricketing sense: MS Dhoni)
Rohit Sharma then led the chase with a watchful 58. However, his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli got out in quick succession early on. At 27 for two, Dinesh Karthik joined Rohit in the middle and the duo played watchfully to stitch a valuable partnership. Their stand ended for 50 with Karthik offering a catch to Mahela Jayawardene – who was playing his 400th ODI – at first slip off Rangana Herath. (Also See: Images: India vs Sri Lanka - Final, Tri-Series 2013)
Joining forces with Suresh Raina, Rohit continued to play watchfully and carried the innings forward. But with India 63 short of the target, Herath dislodged the opener's bails. Six run later, Suranga Lakmal followed up with the wicket of Raina, while Herath trapped Jadeja and Ashwin lbw couple of overs later off consecutive deliveries to leave India on 152 for seven.
With the match precariously poised, Bhuvneshwar Kumar joined Dhoni in the middle. But Malinga ended his 14-ball stay at the crease for naught. With 35 more required in difficult conditions, Vinay Kumar took guard. But after adding five runs in a 15-run partnership, he skied a Mathews delivery that was safely pouched at short thirdman.
With 20 required off 20 balls, Ishant Sharma came to the crease. With singles hard to come by, the required run-rate creeping up and only one wicket in hand, the pressure on the last Indian pair was mounting. Then with 15 runs required from the final over, Dhoni teed off against Eranaga. After missing the first ball, he hit the next one into the stands over the bowler's head, and followed it up with a boundary. He then took Team India to a famous one-wicket victory with a six over extra cover off the next ball.
Brief scores: Sri Lanka 201 all-out in 48.5 overs (K Sangakkara 71, L Thirimanne 46; R Jadeja 4/23, B Kumar 2/24)lost to India 203/9 in 49.4 overs (R Sharma 58, MS Dhoni 45*, R Herath 4/20) by 1 wicket
