Sachin’s wicket – Priceless: Ishant Sharma #SRH vs MI Posted: 02 May 2013 12:40 AM PDT Close to thirty thousand people thronged the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad to catch a glimpse of the master blaster weave his magic with the willow, and at the same time hoping for a win for the home side. To their delight, Sachin Tendulkar's short stint at the crease was a visual delight and at the end of the day, their team walked back with smiles to the dressing room, recording a seven wicket win. (Also Read: SRH vs MI - M43 Report & Stats: IPL 2013) Earlier in the day, during the Mumbai Indians' innings, the stage was set for a 'Dale Steyn vs Sachin Tendulkar' show. Tendulkar, got the better of the world's best fast bowler as he was hit with authority for two magnificent boundaries in one over. The onus was then left on the other SRH bowlers to keep a tab on the run scoring and at the same time stop the run flow off the master's bat. When Ishant Sharma was given the ball, some said he had lost his old lethal self, while others argued that he was going through a rough patch and the best was yet to come. All of that was put to rest by the 24-year old lanky pacer who got Tendulkar clean bowled, as he delivered a beauty of a ball to get the master to take the walk back to the pavilion. "It is a tremendous feeling to get Sachin Tendulkar's wicket," said Ishant in an exclusive chat with IPLT20.com after the match. "When I started playing cricket, I never felt I would someday bowl to Tendulkar or be playing against him. It is a big moment for any bowler to get the wicket of one of the best batsman in the world. I am pleased I got the wicket of the 'God of cricket'. It is a special feeling," said an ecstatic Ishant who was adjudged the man-of-the-match for his outstanding spell of fast bowling against the Mumbai Indians on Wednesday. Ishant ended up with match figures of 4-1-15-2 which also included the wicket of Mumbai Indians' run machine Dinesh Karthik. For Ishant it was all about keeping things simple. "I assessed the conditions and tried to execute whatever set plan we had for each batsmen. I bowled according to my strengths without thinking about the batsman. I am pleased that we did well as a collective bowling unit. We kept things simple, without trying anything extraordinary and did our basics right today. " Ishant has 12 wickets in the tournament so far and believes he is hitting the right line and lengths consistently. He felt he has become more mature when it came to bowling in T20s. Ishant the bowler was a satisfied man at the end of the day. "I have been going in with a relaxed mindset these days which is something that has worked for me in the IPL. I have been consistent throughout the tournament. My economy rate has been close to seven which I feel is fair enough to have in this format of the game. I am pretty happy the way I am bowling." Sharma also reserved praise for Amit Mishra who was the only other bowler to pick up wickets in the match. Mishra too was at his wicket taking best with two wickets to his name. "Amit Mishra has been tremendous for us in the IPL. He did a great job by keeping the MI batsmen silent and taking crucial wickets. I guess we bowled well in pairs and did a great job in restricting Mumbai to 129." Ishant though, regretted dropping Dwayne Smith's catch in the 11th over, but felt it was important that he moved on from the dropped catch since it would affect his bowling. He said, "I felt bad that I dropped an easy catch, but I had to make sure that I did not think about it and let it affect my bowling. I had an over left to bowl after that and had I let the drop catch affect me; I could have well gone for runs in my final over. I am glad I took a clean catch later and also summed up my bowling with good economical figures at the end of the day." source: iplt20.com |
Plan was to keep wickets intact: Badrinath #PWI vs CSK Posted: 02 May 2013 12:33 AM PDT Numbers don't always tell the story of an innings and Subramaniam Badrinath's knock against Pune Warriors India at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium on Tuesday is one such incidence. Involved in a 75-run partnership with Suresh Raina, the middle-order bat helped the Chennai Super Kings' set-up the game against PWI. His 31-ball 34 was vital in laying the foundation for batsmen later to accelerate and set a competitive target for the hosts. The 32-year old bat who is a reliable player in any line-up has got few opportunities to display his skills with the willow this season. Tuesday was one such day and Badrinath rose to the occasion, holding up one end and running quick singles and two's, supporting Suresh Raina as they worked to strengthen their position in the points table in quest for a third title. In a free flowing interview with iplt20.com along the boundary ropes after the thumping victory, Badrinath reflected on the match and spoke about his idol and learning from him. Excerpts: Good to get an opportunity to bat? Yes! Getting to bat after three games it felt was good to get some time in the middle, good to get some runs. And it is good that the result went our way as well. Michael Hussey has been getting runs at the top of the order, was there a change of plan after he got out early and CSK lost both the openers early in the innings? What was your role? We assessed the wicket to be a bit slow and low and it was not easy to play shots so I and Raina decided to stay on for a while and take our time. Even if it was a run a ball it was fine, but not to lose wickets and keep rotating strike and keep going on. We know that with the power hitters behind us we could make up. Keeping wickets was the key and for us. Did you also want to smash a few balls? (Smiles) Yes definitely! I just tried. But I was pretty upset that I got out because I and Raina had decided that even when we got some time to just keep it going on. It was difficult for a new batsman to come in and score runs straight away but MS is in tremendous form. He just came in and smashed every ball. I think he is in tremendous touch and his confidence is showing the way he is playing. It all worked out well. Tell us what is it about your captain and hitting sixes off the last ball whether chasing a target or setting one? What is his thought process? I honestly don't know what he thinks. I know is he thinks and keeps thing simple. He goes in with a clear mind. He just watches the ball and hits the ball. At the end of the day when you keep it simple that's when you become a good finisher. Had the wicket eased later or was it just good batting by MS and Raina later? I wouldn't say so but early on the new ball was cutting a bit off the seam but as the game went on it was getting a little slower but I don't think it got much easier or anything. They were bowling a lot of cross-seams and off-breaks and slow bowling which was actually a little tough to get off the ground. But Dhoni is a power-player and his game, with his bottom hand is to get under the ball. So I think that sort of game really suits this kind of wickets as well. You have got out in the mid 30s on a few occasions you got to bat so what is it that you would be working on? Scores of 30s are decent enough in T20s but still I want to get 50s and take the team along with me. I have been wanting to get 50s and see the innings through with my batting. That is what I want to do and I am aiming at. That is why I was not satisfied with my knock. I wanted to keep going on and finish well for the team. But, as has been happening, this season that I have been getting out in the 30s. But I hope the good one comes around the corner soon. Michael Hussey also plays a lot along the ground and also runs a lot of ones and twos, have you had a chat with him about batting? What have you learnt from him? I have always had chats with him, pretty long chats. We are similar type of cricketers so it makes more sense to learn from him rather than any other cricketer. The way he approaches the game, and the way finishes games is one of the reasons I am not getting to bat. Spending time with him in the dressing room, every moment I always keep learning from him. Not only this year but over the last five years! Anything specific that you would like to share? I think it is more about enjoying your cricket and backing your strengths and playing your own game. I think it is all about innovation, smart thinking and a clear mind. All these things play a crucial part. And even if I don't play for the country, any cricket I play, Hussey says to enjoy the game and try to do the best whichever team I you play for. He (Hussey) plays every match like it is his last so that is something that I have learnt from him. Do you also take inspiration from him the way his international career unfolded after a relatively late debut? Yes, definitely! I take a lot of inspiration from him. He also played late for the country but played really well. He went on to play seven-eight years of international cricket, brilliantly. So I definitely look up to him and I actually idolise him. PWI too have some very good batters and a team that has very little to lose can be a dangerous. So what were your plans against them? That is one danger always. The teams that don't have much to lose they just come and can go berserk but today we just wanted to keep things simple with our bowling but it was like a roller-coaster for the first six overs. It was a little crazy. But I think our fielding was tremendous. Fielding brought us back into the game. Suresh Raina and Albie Morkel effected run outs. Whenever we have looked for breaks our fielding pulled it up and got us the breaks. I think that is a big plus with our side. I don't think you can find any weak fielder on the ground so that is something we work hard on as well. How does it feel to be once again comfortably placed at the top of points table and just one or two wins away from a place in the final four? We have made it to the top-four but we want to be in the top two if not top one. We don't want to take it easy. We want to keep the momentum going. This tournament is all about the momentum and we want to keep it going. The next thing will be to end up in the top two where you get two shots at getting the final. That would be the aim for us and definitely keeping the momentum going is very important as well. SOURCE: iplt20.com |

We need to take up responsibility, cannot be 60/6 at any stage. Need to pull up our socks. Cannot play well as a unit. Not been consistent as a team. We need to take each game as it comes and think it's a do-or-die situation. Jayawardene: Handling situations much better than before, outstanding fielding and that makes a huge difference. Pushing ourselves and one game at a time. Guys working hard on our fielding and it's paying off. We need to look at one game at a time, cannot look too far ahead. This stadium is great and so is the crowd. Warner gets the man of the match. Lovely wicket, and love to bat here. For the team I can bat anywhere and while I like to open the innings, this is what my team wants from me and that's where I will bat. source: iplt20.com |

Shikhar Dhawan, at his authoritative best, led SRH with an undefeated 73 after the home team bowlers had restricted MI to just 129. Chasing a meager 130, Dhawan hit a couple of boundaries off Dhawal Kulkarni in the second over. Always good to bat on this track and wanted to put pressure on the opposition. Need to come back stronger. Important game, but it's not the end of the road for us, got six games now. Sangakkara: We planned and prepared well and then executed well, Ishant set us up well with his three-over spell. Shikhar was outstanding, the way he batted through and then Vihari's was an important knock. Crowds have been fantastic, winning at home was important and happy to be doing that. Ishant Sharma gets the man of the match: I am happy with the way I am bowling throughout this season. Dropping a catch is a part and parcel of the game, I think I took it too easy there, but I knew I had a job to do with the ball in the hand. source: iplt20.com |
PWI vs CSK - M42 Report & Stats: IPL 2013 Posted: 01 May 2013 11:28 PM PDT Match Report: Chennai Super Kings avenged their first leg defeat to Pune Warriors India and galloped on with a convincing 37 run victory at the Subarata Roy Sahara Stadium in Pune. CSK put up an all-round professional show to rout PWI, after posting 164 for 3 batting first. Then CSK restricted PWI to 127 for 9 in the run-chase. Chasing 165, PWI got off to a brisk start as Robin Uthappa hit Ravindra Jadeja for a six in the very first over. Aaron Finch followed it with a boundary and a six off Albie Morkel in the second over. Finch hit Mohit Sharma for a boundary in the third over, but the bowler came back strongly to have the batsman edge one through to the wicket-keeper. He followed that up by rapping Tirumalasetti Suman (0) leg before first ball. Suresh Raina then ran out Uthappa (8) to have PWI reeling at 29 for 3. Steve Smith got off the mark with two boundaries. Sharma then had Yuvraj Singh (5) caught behind for his third wicket. Luke Wright (2) was run out by Morkel in the most unfortunate fashion when Smith's drive caught Morkel's boot to hit the stump, finding Wright short. PWI lost another wicket as Abhishek Nayar (2) was run out after he was involved in a mix up with Smith. PWI were 68 for 6 at the halfway stage, still requiring 97 runs. Kane Richardson showed some fight with a boundary and a six off Ravichandran Ashwin in the 14th over. Smith (35) fell in the 15th over when he was caught and bowled by Jadeja. Bhuvneshwar Kumar provided some entertainment smashing Jadeja for a massive six in the 17th over. PWI lost Richardson (26) and Rahul Sharma (0) and then fell 37 runs short. Earlier CSK were pegged back early as Kane Richardson breached past Michael Hussey's (5) defense. After a slow start, Wriddhiman Saha got a move on with a six and a boundary off Richardson. Rahul Sharma trapped Saha leg before the next over as CSK made only 29 from their Power Play. Raina and Subramaniam Badrinath put on 75 runs for the third wicket as they rebuilt the innings. Raina was given a life on 16 when Wright dropped him off Ashoke Dinda. Badrinath hit consecutive boundaries off Sharma in the 12th over before Raina (63*) joined him launching Richardson for a six in the next over. Wright dismissed Badrinath (34) caught by Smith bringing MS Dhoni to the crease. Dhoni got going immediately with a boundary and a six. Dinda's 18th over was taken for 17 runs as Dhoni slammed a massive six. The CSK skipper finished with an aggressive 45 from just 16 balls which helped CSK reach 164 for 4. Man-of-the-match: MS Dhoni Brief Scores: Chennai Super Kings 164 for 3 (Suresh Raina 63*, Luke Wright 1-12) defeated Pune Warriors India 127 for 9 (Steve Smith 35, Mohit Sharma 3-21) by 37 runs. Stats Highlights: 3: Number of fifties scored by Pune Warriors India batsmen in 10 matches in IPL 2013 – all three have come off Aaron Finch's bat! 4: Number of batsmen who were run-out at non-striker end while backing up too far. Deccan Chargers had a win-percentage of 16.66 at Hyderabad (3 wins in 18 games). 55: Number of sixes conceded by Pune Warriors India – most by any side in IPL 2013. 2513: Runs scored by Suresh Raina in IPL – first player to reach 2,500-run mark in IPL. Presentation: Dhoni is the Man of the Match: "Well I think the platform for there. We needed those runs. We slowed down in the middle. On these kinds of wickets, you never know what is a good target, we did well in keeping wickets in hand. 160 is a good benchmark for wickets about which you know nothing about. It's important we don't really eye 180 everytime. Mohit has played a lot of Delhi cricket, city cricket makes you street smart, he has played lot of those games. He bowls with full effort, he has shown improvement in the last few games. I don't think we would really rest anyone, I think it's important to continue playing your best XI. This year hasn't been too hot, so I am not complaining about the weather." Aaron Finch: "It's always hard to stop MS and Raina played beautifully, so it's back to the drawing board for us. (On this pitch) If you bowled the right length, you would get rewarded and it slowed down later. To knock teams out from getting into the finals is one motivation that we can play for. The fielding was a positive, but those last five overs turned the match." Dhoni gets an award for hitting sixes, Raina gets an award for innovatively running Uthappa out.. source: iplt20.com |
