Was positive about India return: Dinesh Karthik Posted: 07 May 2013 03:24 AM PDT As Dinesh Karthik prepared to leave for the Wankhede Stadium along with his Mumbai Indians team-mates for their practice session, he received pleasant news from the Cricket Centre – BCCI's headquarters in the premises of the stadium. Karthik found out that he has been picked for India's squad for the Champions Trophy to be played in England in June. Karthik is the second leading run-scorer for MI in the ongoing IPL, with 331 runs in 10 matches. The 27-year-old Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper batsman was glad to have been given a chance to make an international comeback after three years. "I'm very happy and it's something that I've been looking forward to since a long time. Comeback into the Indian team is very special to me," Karthik said. Karthik said his performances for MI and Tamil Nadu in the domestic season made him confident of returning to the national fold sooner rather than later. "I knew that I had a chance because I had a good domestic season. The people responsible for the selection put faith in me and now it's important for me to repay them by way of performances." While he looks forward to playing for India again, Karthik is realistic about the role he would be expected to play in the team. He has prepared himself to play as a batsman and knows that his skills behind the stumps would not be called on often. "With MS Dhoni around I'm not looking at the role of wicketkeeper batsman. I know my chances to play are more as a batsman and whenever given an opportunity I'm confident that I can do well," Karthik said. |
KXIP vs RCB - M51 Report & Stats: IPL 2013 Posted: 07 May 2013 02:57 AM PDT Match Report: Kings XI Punjab came back to winning ways with a statement making six-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali. After RCB posted a massive 190, KXIP, led by David Miller's brutal 38-ball unbeaten 101, chased it down in 18 overs. Chasing a mammoth 191, KXIP lost Shaun Marsh (6) caught by AB de Villiers off Ravi Rampaul. Mandeep Singh (16) was then caught behind off Vinay Kumar in the fifth over to give RCB their second wicket. Gurkeerat Singh hit Henriques for two boundaries as KXIP made 41 from the Power Play. Murali Kartik, introduced into the attack in the eighth over, struck immediately trapping Gurkeerat (20) leg before wicket. He struck a second time when David Hussey (13) holed out to Moises Henriques at long on. At the halfway stage, KXIP were 68 for four, still needing 123 runs. Miller smashed Kartik for a six in the 12th over. Rajagopal Sathish was put down by Chris Gayle on seven off Vinay Kumar. Miller went after Vinay Kumar hitting him for a six and two boundaries before Virat Kohli put him down on 41. Miller continued his assault taking apart an RP Singh's over – the 15th of the innings - for 26 runs with two sixes and three boundaries. Needing 53 from 30 balls, Miller dispatched Rampaul for a six and a boundary in the 16th over. He dished out the same treatment to Vinay Kumar in the 17th over. Sathish (27*) hit Gayle for a six and two boundaries before Miller finished the proceedings with a six to bring up his century and see KXIP home. Miller's 38-ball century – his first three-figure score in Twenty20 cricket – is the third-fastest century in the IPL. Earlier KXIP won the toss and put RCB in. RCB openers Gayle and Cheteshwar Pujara started cautiously before Gayle hit consecutive sixes off IPL debutant, Michael Neser taking 18 runs from it. Pujara then joined in with three successive boundaries off Manpreet Gony as RCB made 58 from their Power Play. Gayle brought up his 15th IPL fifty clipping Neser off his pad for two. Gayle (61) smashed Gony for a straight six before the bowler came back strongly to castle him. Pujara hit Parvinder Awana for consecutive boundaries in the 14th over. Gony gave KXIP their second breakthrough when he bowled Pujara (51). Awana had Kohli (14) caught by Shaun Marsh as KXIP put the brakes on the RCB's scoring. de Villiers (38*) hit Neser for a six and a boundary in the 18th over. Henriques (16*) then launched Praveen Kumar over the mid-wicket fence before smashing a boundary. RCB plundered 21 runs off Neser's final over to finish at 190 for 3. Man-of-the-Match: David Miller Brief Scores: Royal Challengers Bangalore 190 for 3 (Chris Gayle 61, Manpreet Gony 2-41) lost to Kings XI Punjab 194 for 4 (David Miller 101*, Murali Kartik 2-24) by 6 wickets. Stats Highlights: 130: The unbroken partnership of 130 between Miller and Sathish equaled the record for the highest fifth wicket partnership in IPL. Owais Shah and Angelo Mathews were involved in an identical partnership for Kolkata Knight Riders against Deccan Chargers at Mumbai DYP in 2010. Incidentally Sathish contributed 27 and Miller 'only' 93 in this partnership! 101: David Miller's unbeaten innings is now the highest score by a number 5 batsman in IPL, surpassing Yusuf Pathan's 100 for Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians at Mumbai BS in 2010. 99: Runs scored by Kings XI Punjab in last 5 overs of their innings. This equaled the record of most runs scored in any 5-over stretch in an IPL game. Rajasthan Royals had also scored 99 (between 12th and 16th overs) against Chennai Super Kings at Chennai in 2010. 62: Runs conceded by Michael Neser – most by a debutant in IPL. Mashrafe Mortaza had conceded 58 for Kolkata Knight Riders against Deccan Chargers in 2009. Incidentally he just missed the ignominy of conceding most runs in an IPL match. This dubious distinction is shared by Varun Aaron and Ashoke Dinda. 38: Balls taken by David Miller to reach his hundred – third fastest hundred in IPL history after Chris Gayle 30 balls (RCB v PWI 2013) and Yusuf Pathan 37 balls (RR v MI, 2010). 24: Number of balls taken by David Miller to reach his fifty. He is the first batsman to score two fifties off 25 balls (or less) in IPL 2013. Miller had scored a 25-ball fifty against Chennai Super Kings at Chennai. 2: Number of batsmen to score a hundred in IPL at number five. David Miller emulated Yusuf Pathan. Quotes from the presentation "One of the best innings anyone has ever seen in the IPL," says Virat Kohli. "But a few good efforts in the field could have changed it for us. 190 was a par total. We should have taken the chances in the field. One of those days. You concentrate hard when you go for catches, but sometimes they don't stick. Credit to David too. It was an incredible innings." "Very pleased," says David Hussey. "What an innings. We bowled really well. And about an innings like that, what can you say? We never lose hope. We have been fighting till the bitter end. The total was a bit over-par, but when you have batters like David Miller and Sathish at the end, anything is possible. It seems unreal when you sit down and watch it. He is a Kings XI Punjab player for life." "It was a big total to get," says David Miller, the Man of the Match. "Sathish and I decided to get in and then explode. Sathish is experienced. He did a great job in the end. 'If it's in the V, in the tree; if it's in the arc, it's out of the park.'" The bit about V and tree is what David Miller's father used to tell him when he was a kid source: iplt20.com |
RR vs PWI - M50 Report & Stats: IPL 2013 Posted: 07 May 2013 02:29 AM PDT Match Report: Rajasthan Royals came back to winning ways with a thrilling five-wicket win over Pune Warriors India at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Batting first, PWI posted a mammoth 178, which RR overhauled on the back of half-centuries by Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Dravid. The hosts chased down the total with a ball to spare. Chasing 179, Rahul Dravid got RR rolling with two gorgeous shots through covers off Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The RR skipper followed it up with two more boundaries off Kumar in the third over. Ajinkya Rahane joined the party as he smashed Krishnakant Upadhyay for a six and a boundary. RR made the most of the field restrictions as they accumulated 53 from their power play overs. At the halfway stage, RR were 84 for no loss, still needing 95. Dravid brought up his fifty with a six off Rahul Sharma. Angelo Mathews got PWI their first breakthrough having Dravid (58) caught by Mitchell Marsh at long off. Rahane continued his assault as RR took 21 runs from Mathews in the 14th over. RR suffered a setback of sorts as Wayne Parnell saw the back of the dangerous Shane Watson (5). Rahane got to his half-century in style, depositing Mathews for a six over extra cover. Bhuvneshwar Kumar brought his team back into the contest when he had Rahane (67) caught by Sharma in the 16th over. Stuart Binny then hit a boundary and a six off Sharma before Parnell had Brad Hodge (4) caught by Kumar. Sanju Vishwanadh hit consecutive boundaries off Parnell to reduce the equation to 18 from 12 balls. Yuvraj Singh put down a difficult opportunity of Binny (32*) in the 19th over and that opportunity cost PWI the match as Binny launched Kumar for a six and eventually hit the winning hit. Earlier PWI won the toss and opted to bat. Openers, Robin Uthappa and Aaron Finch started positively with three boundaries off Ajit Chandila in the third over. Uthappa then smashed three boundaries off Watson. Runs continued to flow fast as PWI made 61 from their Power Play overs. Uthappa launched Stuart Binny over the fence in the 8th over. Kevon Cooper finally got the breakthrough, sending Finch's (45) stump cart-wheeling. Yuvraj Singh who looked in a dangerous mood dispatched Binny for a boundary and a six in the 13th over. Uthappa smashed two boundaries off Siddharth Trivedi but Trivedi came back well to have Yuvraj (15) caught by Cooper. Uthappa's (54) innings came to an end when Vishwanadh ran him out. Marsh deposited Cooper for two maximums in the 19thover. Mathews (18) fell in pursuit of runs off Faulkner. Marsh (35*) hit the final ball for a six as PWI finished at 178 for 4. Man-of-the-Match: Ajinkya Rahane Brief Scores: Pune Warriors India 178 for 4 (Robin Uthappa 54, Siddharth Trivedi 1-33) lost to Rajasthan Royals 182 for 5 in 19.5 over (Ajinkya Rahane 67, Wayne Parnell 3-23) by 5 wickets. Stats Highlights: 3: Number of times both openers have scored fifties together for Rajasthan Royals. Graeme Smith and Swapnil Asnodkar (vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, Jaipur, 2008); Naman Ojha and Graeme Smith (vs Kings XI Punjab, Durban, 2009) provided the other two such instances. 5: Number of fifty stands put on by the pair of Robin Uthappa and Aaron Finch in IPL 2013 – most by an opening pair. 7: Number of consecutive matches lost by Pune Warriors India. They had lost 11 in a row (an IPL record) between 2012 and 2013; and also seven in a row in 2011 edition. 10: Rahul Dravid became tenth batsman to aggregate 2000 runs in IPL. 25: Number of boundaries in Pune Warriors India's innings (20 fours and 5 sixes). Most conceded by Rajasthan Royals in a match at Jaipur. 97: Runs added by Uthappa and Finch – Pune Warriors' highest opening partnership in IPL. It is also their highest partnership for any wicket in IPL 2013. 100: Percent – Rajasthan Royals' win-record at Jaipur in IPL2013 – six wins out of six. 182: Rajasthan Royals' total – second highest successful chase at Jaipur after Rajasthan Royals' 197 for five against Deccan Chargers in 2012. Quotes from the presentation "Been the story of a few of our games," says Aaron Finch. "We played well. There were maybe a couple of overs we could have done better. Disappointing to get so close again, and lose out, but that seems to be the story so far. We couldn't take the wickets in the middle overs." "It was a really good game," says Rahul Dravid. "We came back with the ball really well. At one point, 200 looked possible, but pulled them back. It's a good cricket wicket. There is something in it for the bowlers, but if you play well you can play your shots. 360 degrees. Good to see the youngsters finish it off in the end. Just the way everyone constructed it. Nut every day do you chase 180 without Watson and Hodge contributing big time.." "180 was not easy to chase," says Ajinkya Rahane, the Man of the Match. "But overall everyone did well. Especially our bowlers came back,a dn I think they were 10-15 short. We just wanted to play cricketing shots, our normal game. I was disappointed to get when I did, but Stuart and Sanju did really well." source: iplt20.com |
MI vs CSK - M49 Report & Stats: IPL 2013 Posted: 07 May 2013 01:56 AM PDT Match Report: Mumbai Indians stopped the yellow juggernaut, bringing to an end CSK's seven-match winning by a whopping 60 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Having posted a modest 139, the home team bowlers put up an inspired performance, led by Mitchell Johnson, to bowl out the visitors for 79 - their lowest-ever score in the IPL. Chasing just 140, CSK started on a very lucky note as Michael Hussey was put down not once but thrice by Kieron Pollard at point off Johnson in the very first over. Johnson then struck thrice to demolish the CSK top order. He bowled Murali Vijay (2) first before Suresh Raina (0) was caught spectacularly by Pollard. Subramaniam Badrinath (0) was third to be dismissed as he was trapped leg before wicket. Dwayne Bravo (9) counter-attacked with consecutive boundaries off Pawan Suyal before he was caught by Ambati Rayudu to leave CSK reeling at 18 for 4. The move to promote Ravichandran Ashwin (2) backfired as he was bowled by Harbhajan Singh. Pragyan Ojha then had Hussey (22) caught by Dwayne Smith in the deep. At the halfway stage, CSK were 48 for 6, still needing 92 runs. Ojha then dismissed the dangerous MS Dhoni (10) before Lasith Malinga bowled Chris Morris (1). Mohit Sharma (0) followed caught by Suyal. Ravindra Jadeja (20) was dropped on 11 by Pollard but Ojha eventually dismissed him as CSK were bundled out for 79. Earlier MI won the toss and elected to bat. MI openers Sachin Tendulkar and Smith started cautiously. Tendulkar smashed Mohit Sharma for a boundary before depositing him for a six in the 6th over as MI made 32 from the Power Play. Ravindra Jadeja was hit for a six by Smith, but Jadeja came back to trap Tendulkar (15) leg before wicket. Bravo sent back Smith (22) caught off his own bowling. The dangerous Pollard (1) who was put down on 0 by Bravo was caught by Raina off Jadeja. Dinesh Karthik (23) hit Jadeja for two boundaries and a six before holing out in the deep. Ashwin then bowled Ambati Rayudu (10) to leave MI five down. Harbhajan got off the mark hitting Ashwin into the stands. Rohit Sharma (39*) smashed Ben Laughlin for a massive six in the 18th over. The last over bowled by Laughlin was taken for 19 runs as Harbhajan (25*) and Rohit Sharma added 57 runs in 4.5 overs. MI finished at 139 for 5. Man-of-the-Match: Mitchell Johnson Brief Scores: Mumbai Indians 139 for 5 (Rohit Sharma 39*, Ravindra Jadeja 3-29) defeated Chennai Super Kings 79 all out in 15.2 overs (Michael Hussey 22; Pragyan Ojha 3-11) by 60 runs. Stats Highlights: 0: Number of matches lost by Mumbai Indians at home in IPL2013. They have won all five. 1: Chennai Super Kings suffered their first defeat in an away match in IPL2013. They had won all four previous games. 50: Number of matches won by Mumbai Indians in IPL. They become the second team to win 50 games after Chennai Super Kings (56). 60: The victory margin for Mumbai Indians - biggest ever by any side against Chennai Super Kings. Royal Challengers Bangalore had beaten them by 36 runs at Bengaluru in 2010. 79: Chennai Super Kings' total – their lowest in IPL. It was the first time Chennai Super Kings were bowled out for lesser since their 109 against Rajasthan Royals at Jaipur in 2008. It's also the fourth lowest total in IPL history. Presentation: Rohit: "It was an important game and a very good win. We didn't want to put too much pressure on ourselves and we are very happy with the result. I thought 140 was a decent target as the wicket was a bit dry and the ball wasn't coming on to the bat. Taking regular wickets was crucial and we did enough for the win. Mitchell Johnson has been great at giving us these breakthroughs and today's been a perfect day. The way Pollard came back and took that catch off Raina shows the depth of character he has. We're going to take each game as it comes and try to perform to our best." Dhoni: "I thought we restricted them to a good score. We were confident we could get them. I think we got a bit complacent and mentally we weren't fully with the match. It's been a good wake-up call and I am glad it's happened with so many games left. The wicket didn't suit big strokes and it was bowler friendly. They did well to take wickets at regular intervals and just didn't do what we needed with the bat." source: iplt20.com |

Darren Sammy knocked back Virender Sehwag's (8) off-stump to leave DD two down in the eighth over. DD were 43 for 2 at the halfway stage. Steyn bowled Unmukt Chand (17) before Mishra had Warner (8), who was put down by Vihari on 6, stumped to leave the DD innings in disarray. The capitulation continued as Karan Sharma caught Kedar Jadhav (3) off his own bowling. Jeevan Mendis (11) holed out in the deep off Sammy to leave DD reeling at 70 for six. Johan Botha (1) then fell to Thisara Perera before Shahbaz Nadeem (0) was run out in a comic misunderstanding. Steyn removed Pathan's (13) off-stump and Perera cleaned up Nehra (0) as DD were bowled out for 80 - their lowest score in the IPL. Man-of-the-Match: Darren Sammy Brief Scores: Delhi Daredevils 80 all out in 19.1 overs (Unmukt Chand 17, Darren Sammy 2-10) lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad 81 for 4 in 13.5 overs (Darren Sammy 18*, Johan Botha 2-11) by 6 wickets. Stats Highlights: 80: Delhi Daredevils' total – lowest by any side in IPL2013. The previous lowest was 83 also by Delhi Daredevils against Chennai Super Kings at Delhi. 69: Number of dot balls in Delhi Daredevils innings – most for any side. They had 66 dot balls against Kings XI Punjab at Dharmasala in 2011. 37: Sunrisers Hyderabad won with 37 balls to spare. They inflicted the heaviest defeat on Delhi Daredevils in terms of balls. They have won five out of five. Quotes from the presentation "On a wicket like this the practical thing would have been to get 120 on the board," says Mahela Jayawardene "We are not playing according to the conditions. It is a wicket where you can;t play big shots, you had to manoeuvre it, make them run around. We didn't even bat the 20 overs. Usually you try to win majority of home games, but we haven't been able to." "It was a really good bowling and fielding performance ," says Kumar Sangakkara. "Our bowlers have executed everything really well. It was probably a 120 wicket. We were thinking of sending in a few hitters early to finish it off early, but the wicket was not such." "It's the same dummy," says Darren Sammy, the Man of the Match. "but I must tell you I sterilise it before every game. I must commend. The entire team. This has been the highlight of the Sunrisers. The way we play as a team. Captain Sangakkara was spot on. It is out home ground; if we don't know how to bowl here, it makes no sense playing here." source: iplt20.com |
